Do some of you women really diet down to not mensturate?
Posted on Jul 10, 2009 under Diets for Women | 3 CommentsI think thats why I see a lot of super skinny women. You doing the dieting to not have your monthly aunt flow? (I’m a women too.) Wondering whats the effects are, and is it really helpful. How far you had to diet down to in weight terms and still be able to do everyday tasks like housework and hold down a job.
Weight loss amenorrhea is neither healthy nor safe. Amenorrhea is induced when the patient drops 15% or more below her ideal body weight, resulting in central nervous system-hypothalamic dysfunction, pituitary gonadotrophin function dysfunctional and abnormalities, bone density loss, malnutrition and much more. The same is true of both patients who induce amenorrhea either by design (i.e., eating disorder) or circumstance (i.e., female athlete triad; ballerinas, etc. etc.). There are other alternatives to inducing menstrual suppression (i.e., Seasonale) or dealing with heavy bleedings/cramps/etc., if that is the problem (such as surgery or medical intervention).
